Reigning Aviva premiership champions Harlequins FC came from behind to stun their neighbors The London Wasps 42-40 in the first match of the new season of English domestic rugby at Twickenham on a day that Saracens FC also displayed their intention of reclaiming the title that they lost to The Quins last season. Christian Wade, the winger for the London Wasps put on a stunning display of attacking rugby and his hat trick of tries had put The Wasps in a commanding position at one time.
With The Wasps leading The Quins by a margin of 40-13 at one point, it was extremely hard to imagine that a massive 40 points had separated these two teams last season. However, Harlequins FC displayed the resolve that champions teams are made of and scored 29 points without a reply from The Wasps to seal a famous come from behind win on the opening day. There were a total of 10 tries scored throughout the match and the fans that came to watch it were paid back in full.
However, the lack of defensive organization that allowed the opposition to ship in 40 points is something that both sides should work upon, but for the moment, The Quins are extremely happy that they managed to overcome the odds and put the win on board. The Quins, who managed to score 26 points in just over 10 minutes of rugby displayed the two sides of their play, when they were completely outclassed in the first half and the manner in which they came back to take the win.
Harlequins FC, who have set down the marker and want to repeat as champions displayed some of the champion traits but it has to be said that the defense needs a lot of practice to sustain a title challenge.
